What is Dysport?

As a purified botulinum neurotoxin used for cosmetic purposes, Dysport was FDA approved in 2009. This injectable cosmetic treatment is most commonly used to smooth horizontal lines from the forehead, but it can also be used for crow’s feet at the eyes and vertical lines between the eyebrows. Dysport is an especially good option for those seeking a treatment at the last moment before a big event because it takes effect quickly (24 hours to 3 days). It’s also great for treating larger areas because of how it diffuses.

How Dysport works

With 25 years of clinical use behind it, Dysport is a very safe and effective cosmetic treatment. It works by stopping the nerve signal that goes to the muscle that creates the appearance of wrinkles. When the muscle is unable to contract, the wrinkles are much less apparent. And you need not worry about losing your ability to make expressions. When you choose an experienced doctor, they will know exactly how much Dysport to give you, and where to do it so that you can get the results you want and still be able to make facial expressions.

FAQ

How much do Miami Dysport cosmetic injections cost?

The average cost of Dysport from The Maercks Institute is from $1000.

Are there any side effects with Dysport?

Possible minor side effects of Dysport include reaction or pain at the injection site, nausea, and/or headaches. There’s also the possibility that the medication may spread past the injection site. If this happens, the patient may experience loss of bladder control; hoarseness of voice; change or loss of voice; flu-like symptoms; double or blurred vision; neck/back pain; muscle weakness, pain, or stiffness; redness at injection site; temporary facial drooping; loss of strength, and/or breathing or swallowing problems. Dr. Maercks will discuss the possible side effects with each patient and create an individualized plan to minimize side effects and ensure optimal results.

How is Dysport different than Botox?

Dysport is extremely similar to Botox® (which is one of the top cosmetic injections in the entire world), but there are some key differences between them. Disport has a smaller molecular size than Botox, and it also has a thinner formula. This is how it’s able to achieve results more quickly than Botox—because its thin substance allows it to diffuse more easily. Also because of the more diluted formula, however, more Dysport may be needed than Botox to achieve the desired results in a certain area. If you’re unsure whether Dysport or Botox is better for your needs, this can be discussed during your initial consultation.

How Dysport is administered

As Dysport cosmetic injections are fairly painless, patients don’t typically require any anesthetic. Based on the amount of muscle mass at the treatment site, the dosage is set by Dr. Maercks after the injection site is chosen. After injection, Dysport works to smooth out wrinkles by decreasing muscle contractions. The procedure is typically complete in about 15 minutes. Follow-up treatments can be scheduled after 90 days have passed from the first treatment.

Downtime and results

Patients require no downtime after treatment, and can often return to daily activities immediately. Dr. Maercks requires that no alcohol be consumed and that the patient remains in an upright position for six hours after treatment. Results are usually noticeable within a few days of the Dysport injection and last 4 to 6 months.
